ARNOLD, Md. - The Hagerstown Hawks are again MD JUCO Champions in both men's and women's cross country. The depth of both teams carried the Hawks to this year's team titles.
In the women's race, Hagerstown (37 pts.) bested Anne Arundel (49) and Howard (65). Among MD JUCO finishers, the Hawks had four in the top 10 and five in the top 15 to earn the team title. On the men's side, Hagerstown had all five runners place in the top 10 among MD JUCO competition, but Howard had five in the top 15 for a close battle that the Hawks won, 29-41.
In the 5K race for the women, Southern Maryland's Jacqueline Clark was the individual champion with a time of 20:41. Hagerstown's Annie Noffsinger came in third overall with a 21:35, Howard's Caroline Haden (21:48) was fourth and Hagerstown's Kortney Cunningham came in fifth at 22:07.
Anne Arundel's Meghan Brooks (22:31), Hagerstown's Nicolette Clarke (23:01) and Harford's Annie Scott (23:27) also earned All-MD JUCO honors with their top seven finish among conference harriers.
On the men's side, Howard's Gary Smolyak took medalist honors in the 8K with a time of 27:37. Southern Maryland's Chris Jones crossed the line next at 28:17, followed by a pair of Hagerstown Hawks, Cody Grams (28:18) and Matt Taylor (28:46).
Howard's Jacob Staley (28:47) and Hagerstown's Connor Good (28:58) and Tom Kersting (29:44) also earned All-MD JUCO honors with their top seven finish among conference harriers.
Overall, Southern Maryland took third as a team in their first year of competition (66 pts.) and Harford (99) finished fourth.
