The Howard Community College Dragons Cross Country team traveled to Greensboro, NC to compete in the Greensboro Invitational. The women were 12th overall and 4th in the Division-III race. The men's team, ranked 2nd in the NJCAA Division III, were 6th overall and 2nd in the Division III. Howard Community College was the only community college in the field of 17 teams.
Margaret Niland (Laurel, MD, Reservoir) was the finisher for the women placing 23rd overall with a time of 20:42 on a sloppy 5k course. She was followed by Amani Jones (Columbia, MD, Oakland Mills) 69th / 22:33; Olivia Cleckner (Sykesville, MD, Century) 80th /24:37; Katherine Hernandez (Baltimore, MD, Landsdown) 85th / 24:56; Josselyn Hernandez (Baltimore, MD, Landsdown) 102nd / 27:50; Angelica Rodriguez (Laurel, MD, Reservoir) 103rd / 28:18; and Kristen Murrill (Sykesville, MD, Century) 105th / 28:36.
Corey Young (Silver Spring, MD, Springbrook HS) continues to lead the men placing 18th / 28:13. He was followed by Jacob Staley (New Market, MD, Oakdale HS) 27th, 28:50; Garrett Birsa (Westminster, MD, Manchester Valley HS) 45th / 29:47; Jarod Barnes (Baltimore, MD, KASA Academy) 48th / 29:55; Isaiah Garner (Randallstown, MD, Dulaney HS) 49th / 29:58; Brady Dumonchelle (Westminster, MD, Manchester Valley HS) 57th / 30:20; Dominic Mandile (Ellicott City, MD, River Hill HS) 60th / 30:46.
"This was a good challenge for both programs" said Coach Steve Musselman, "They need a tough race in sloppy conditions to see what they could do when we see this in the future."
The Dragons will travel to Lehigh University on Friday October 2nd to compete in the Paul Short Invitational. Paul Short is one of the largest collegiate invitational meets on the east coast.
