FREDERICK, MD -- Frederick Community College announced on March 15 that it has named Shawn Noël Director of Athletics. Noël began assuming responsibilities at FCC on March 19.
Noël, formerly Director of Athletics & Recreation at Brookdale Community College, brings nearly a decade of athletic administration, coaching, and business experience to Frederick Community College.
While at Brookdale Community College, Noël was a part of five National Championships, 18 Regional Championships, and 16 Conference Championships. He has also helped maintain an over 90% retention rate of student athletes while having numerous NJCAA Academic Team honors with teams maintaining above a 3.00 GPA.
Active on the national level as an advocate for two year college athletics, Noël served as the Region XIX Men's Director, a position he held for 5 years. He is also a member of the NATYCAA Executive Board representing District II. He has held leadership positions in the NJCAA as National Men's Lacrosse Chair, Division III Men's Basketball Chair, Division III Baseball Vice Chair, Cross County and Division III Sports Districting Committees.
Prior to his role at Brookdale Community College, Noël served as the Director of Athletics at Garrett College. While at Garrett College, he orchestrated the opening of a $23 million dollar athletics and recreation center. The 70,000 square foot facility includes a full gymnasium, fitness center, athletic offices and natatorium.
Prior to his time at Garrett, Noël served as Assistant Director of Athletics at Herkimer County Community College in Herkimer, NY, where he oversaw the operation of the college's multimillion dollar artificial turf stadium and summer camps. Herkimer's 19 intercollegiate athletics programs were met with unprecedented success under his tutelage, earning three national championships, seven regional championships, nine conference championships and two NJCAA academic team of the year honors. Noël also implemented and maintained a new athletics website that included state-of-the-art webcasting and text alert capabilities.
Noël also enjoyed a baseball coaching career at Hudson Valley Community College, helping the Vikings to the Mountain Valley Conference championship and qualifying for the Region III Final Four during the 2007 campaign.
A baseball fanatic, Noël got his start in athletics administration, working as a stadium operations assistant in the New York Yankees' human resources and marketing departments during its 1998 World Series Championship campaign.
He earned his Bachelor's Degree from Oswego State University and later obtained a Master's degree in business administration from the University of Albany.
Accompanying Noël to Frederick will be his wife, Brenda, and their son, Graham.
