BALTIMORE -- The Maryland Junior College Athletic Conference (Maryland JUCO) today announced the #1 Harford Fighting Owls, #2 CCBC Essex Knights, #3 Howard Dragons, #5 Frederick Cougars, #6 Montgomery Raptors, #8 Anne Arundel Riverhawks, #10 Prince George's Owls and #13 Chesapeake Skipjacks have advanced to the second round of the 2018 Maryland JUCO Mascot Madness.
Nearly 1,200 Twitter users casted votes in the first round.
The most competitive opening round match was between Chesapeake and Hagerstown. The 13th seeded Skipjacks rallied to pull off the upset and defeat the four seeded Hawks 53-47% and will now face Frederick.
Conversely, Prince George's enjoyed the largest margin of victory. The #10 Owls defeated #7 Southern Maryland 71-29% and have drawn #2 CCBC Essex in round two.

The conference seeded its 16 member institutions into a tournament-style bracket to see which mascot will reign supreme. The champion will be announced on Sunday, February 18 at the Maryland JUCO Basketball Tournament championship games, hosted by Prince George's Community College.
Round Two will begin Friday morning and run for four days.
