Harford Sweeps Maryland JUCO Cross Country Team Titles; Eissa, Starks Win Individual Championships

HAGERSTOWN, MD -- Harford Community College took home men's and women's Maryland JUCO cross country titles on Saturday, scoring 26 and 16, respectively, in the meet hosted by Hagerstown Community College. 

The Fighting Owls' men beat runner-up CCBC Essex by nine points and their women finished with a 47-point margin over Baltimore City Community College.

Harford had three of the top five finishers, including Maryland JUCO Men's Cross Country Student-Athlete of the Month (September) Hassan Eissa (27:15:00) who finished four seconds ahead of CCBC Catonsville's Kris Purdie (27:19:00) to take the top individual spot.

Eric Baranoski (Harford) ran third at 27:34:00, Frankye Duckett (CCBC Catonsville) took fourth with a time of 28:17:00 and Mike Foulks rounded out the top five, running a time of 29:02:00.

Howard Community College's Abigail Starks (19:32) took number one honors on the women's side and Maryland JUCO Women's Cross Country Student-Athlete of the Month (September) Caroline McCarthy (Harford) finished second (21:08).

Fighting Owls' Valerie Taylor (21:37) and Courtney Koga (21:40) ran third and fourth, respectively, while Allegany College of Maryland's Mary Messersmith came in fifth (21:53).
