BALTIMORE -- The Maryland Junior College Athletic Conference (Maryland JUCO) last week announced that it has selected Hassan Eissa (men's cross country) and Caroline McCarthy (women's cross country) as its Cross Country Student Athletes of the Month for September 2017.
Eissa (Harford Community College | Homeschool) is arguably the backbone of the Fighting Owls men's cross country team. He finished 33rd overall in the 8k at the Mustang Stampede, hosted by Stevenson University, with a time of 29:38, and 2nd at the Goldey-Beacom Classic with a time of 28:20. The majority of runners at both races were from four-year universities. Eissa also finished second in the 5k (17:57) at the Harford Meet on September 15.
McCarthy (Harford Community College | Paterson Mill H.S.) finished 30th out of 76 runners at the Mustang Stampede with a 6k time of 27:49. She finished 2nd in the Harford Meet with a time of 23:17 in the 5k. On September 22, she continued to improve, this time at the Goldey-Beacom, running a 5k in 22:48, and finishing 10th in a field of 65 runners.
