Maryland JUCO Names Five Student Athletes of the Month

BALTIMORE – The Maryland JUCO Athletic Conference has named Joseph Garner (men's soccer), Shianne Georgantakis (women's soccer), Hannah Henderson (volleyball), Abbey Starks (women's cross country) and Corey Young (men's cross country) as its Student Athletes of the Month for October 2016.

Garner (Frederick Community College) started all seven of his team's games in October, playing 545 minutes between the pipes. He allowed just three goals and made 29 saves en route to an appearance in the NJCAA Region XX Division I Men's Soccer Tournament final.

Georgantakis (Harford Community College), primarily a center back, anchored a defense that allowed just seven goals in seven games, including four shutouts, while going 7-0 for the month. She also made time to score 10 goals on 57 shots (24 on goal) and finished the month with 21 points.

Henderson (Garrett College) had an incredible month of October with 116 kills, 102 digs and 159.5 points. She finished the season ranked fourth in the conference in kills and second in points, despite only playing in 17 matches.

Starks (Howard Community College) was the top female finisher at this year's Maryland JUCO/NJCAA Region XX meet with a time of 21:11.9 (5K), earning All Maryland JUCO and All NJCAA Region XX honors.

Young (Howard Community College) was the top male finisher at the Maryland JUCO/NJCAA Region XX meet with a time of 29:49.6 (8K), also earning All Maryland JUCO and All NJCAA Region XX honors.
