Nationals
The Montgomery College-Rockville Mens basketball team fell
short of a victory as they were defeated by the top seeded team Sullivan County Community
College of New York, in the quarterfinals of the NJCAA Division III National Tournament,
held at SUNY, Delhi, NY.
The Rockville Knights played a competitive match but were
unable to deliver on a 3-pont attempt that would have tied the game, making the final
score 72-69. My guys did a great job as we were up against the number one and
undefeated team in the nation. We just came up short in the end, says head coach
Steve Hobson. The team finished the season with a 20-14 record. Sophomore and leading
scorer, Armond Hill, who averaged 20 points per game was held to 12 points. We knew
what we were up against and we gave it our best shot, says Hill. This was the last
game for sophomores Armond Hill, Arthur Dabney, and Beyagi Batchilly, who will be
furthering their basketball career at Division I and Division II schools. This was the
team's second year advancing to the National Tournament.
