MC Rockville Men’s Basketball Wins Regionals; Competitive at Nationals

 

Regionals

 

The Montgomery College -Rockville Knights are the 2007 NJCAA Division III Region XX Champions. Led by Head Coach Steve Hobson, the Knights defeated Catawba Valley Community College, with a final score of 101-98 at Lenoir Rhyne College in Hickory, North Carolina. The team represented the Region in the National Tournament, March 15-17, 2007 at State University of New York in Delhi, NY. This was the second year the team advanced to the National Tournament.

 

Nationals

 

The Montgomery College-Rockville Men’s basketball team fell short of a victory as they were defeated by the top seeded team Sullivan County Community College of New York, in the quarterfinals of the NJCAA Division III National Tournament, held at SUNY, Delhi, NY.

 The Rockville Knights played a competitive match but were unable to deliver on a 3-pont attempt that would have tied the game, making the final score 72-69. “My guys did a great job as we were up against the number one and undefeated team in the nation. We just came up short in the end,” says head coach Steve Hobson. The team finished the season with a 20-14 record. Sophomore and leading scorer, Armond Hill, who averaged 20 points per game was held to 12 points. “We knew what we were up against and we gave it our best shot,” says Hill. This was the last game for sophomores Armond Hill, Arthur Dabney, and Beyagi Batchilly, who will be furthering their basketball career at Division I and Division II schools. This was the team's second year advancing to the National Tournament.
